WATCH: Chinese New Year celebrations in Helsinki

Year of the Pig begins with colour, music, dance and Chinese food in Helsinki celebration.


Thousands of people came to celebrate Chinese New Year in Helsinki on Monday night.

The Year of the Pig was ushered in with traditional music, displays of martial arts, and lion and dragon dancing.

Red lanterns lit up Kansalaistori in the capital, as the new Oodi Central Library was bathed in light with Chinese motifs.

Minister of Culture Sampo Terho (Blue) inaugurated the celebration, which ended later with a firework display over Töölönlahti.
