President Sauli Niinistö made a little history this week, becoming the first Finnish president to visit Ethiopia. The two-day trip also marked Niinistö’s first official to Africa.
During his stay in Addis Ababa, Niinistö met Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work Zewde, and also Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who was named as the recipient of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize earlier in October.
There was a visit to a local school meeting children who benefit from Finnish development projects; meetings at the African Union, and addressing conferences on gender equality and climate change.
