Finnish NBA star Lauri Markkanen is out sick for the rest of the season, after suffering from rapid heart rate and fatigue at a recent game in Toronto.
The Chicago Bulls number 24 will miss the last six games of the regular season, and his team in any case didn’t qualify for the post-season play-offs.
After the Toronto game, Markkanen’s team mates headed back to Chicago but he had to stay in hospital for tests to determine the cause of his medical condition.
Soon after, head coach Jim Boylen wrote to fans on Twitter “We are gonna shutdown Lauri Markkanen for the season”.
“We got his tests back from his fatigue episode came back all positive, but we’re going to be as cautious with him as we can”.
Doctors will continue assessing Markkanen for the next 10 to 14 days.
“The long-term health of our players is always our organisation’s top priority” Bulls executive vice-president of basketball operations John Paxson said in a statement.
“We will continue to monitor Lauri’s condition and work with our medical staff and doctors to provide him with everything he may need” he added.
