Finland’s Henri Kontinen and his Australian doubles partner John Peers have moved into the fourth round of the US Open tennis tournament.
Kontinen and Peers beat Russian pair Mikhail Elgin and Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 26 minutes.
“I’ve played against Elgin, and I knew he was a good player” says Kontinen. “Otherwise, we didn’t really know them, we just started to play our own game”.
The start of Sunday’s match was delayed a few hours by rain.
The Finn / Australian duo are ranked 4th at the tournament, and Sunday’s win was a bonus for Kontinen who was knocked out in the opening round of his mixed doubles quest.
