Finland’s Viveca Lindfors has claimed a bronze medal at the European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk.

It’s Finland’s first medal in the event since Kiira Korpi took silver back in 2012.

The 19-year old was in fourth place after the short programme, behind two skaters from Russia and a Swiss athlete. But dancing to a medley from the Les Miserables soundtrack, Lindfors moved up to third place after the free skate.

Lindfors, who skates at a club in Espoo, is the current reigning Finnish champion and had previously placed as high as 8th at the European Championships back in 2016.

Another skater Emmi Peltonen ranked 8th overall in the competition, giving Finland two top-10 finishes.

In the men’s competition, Finland’s Roman Galay came in 32nd place after the short programme and did not advance to the free skate.
