It’s a multi-year sponsorship deal, but so far no price tag has been revealed. The Angry Birds logo will make its debut on the sleeve of the Everton jerseys at today’s match against Manchester United. The 2017/2018 season is the first one where Premier League clubs are allowed to put a sponsor logo on the arm of player shirts.
“We’re delighted that Rovio Entertainment has become Everton’s first shirt sleeve partner” says Everton Chief Executive Robert Elstone.
“Angry Birds is one of the best-selling game apps of all time and is also a remarkable success story in terms of the way in which the brand has crossed over from gaming to become part of popular culture. Everyone here is excited about being able to work with such a creative, dynamic and ambitious brand.” he says.
The Angry Birds games for mobile phone took flight in December 2009, and have so far racked up more than 3.7 billion downloads.
The tie-up with the Angry Birds brand helps Everton with its own brand awareness, and gives it more exposure in key international markets. There is also the opportunity to co-brand different types of merchandise.
“We are excited to bring Angry Birds into the top flight of English football” says Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Ville Heijari.
“This is Rovio’s first partnership in the most watched sports league in the world, and a logical continuation of our global Angry Birds brand partnerships” he adds.
