South Korea’s First Couple start state visit

This is the first state visit from a South Korean leader to Finland since 2006.

President Sauli Niinistö is rolling out the red carpet for a state visit by his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in.

Moon, and his wife, are taking part in the two-day visit which includes a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace; official talks on regional issues and multicultural cooperation; as well as a meeting with Finland’s new Prime Minister Antti Rinne (SDP) new Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen (Centre).

During the visit President Moon will also visit Aalto University in Espoo and attend a gala dinner hosted by the President and First Lady.

The two presidential spouses have their own separate programme with Jenni Haukio hosting South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook at the new Helsinki Children’s Hospital and the Design Museum.

The last state visit from South Korea to Finland took place in 2006 when President Tarja Halonen hosted President Roh Moo-hyun at that time.
