Calling Washington: Niinistö Phones Trump For Talks

The two presidents talked international relations and the Arctic.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö talked with his American counterpart Donald Trump on the phone on Monday.

According to a press release from Niinistö’s office the two presidents discussed the state of international relations in general, and the Arctic region in particular. Finland is the current chair of the Arctic Council.

President Niinistö expressed his hope that Trump’s upcoming meetings with France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel are “fruitful”.

During the call, held at Finland’s initiative, President Trump again congratulated President Niinistö on his January re-election.

The two presidents met for the first time last August at the White House in Washington D.C.
