Two teenage girls killed in South Ostrobothnia car crash

All the young women in the car were wearing seat belts when the driver lost control, skidded off the road and hit an electricity pole.

Two teenage girls have been killed in a car crash near Kurikka, in South Ostrobothnia. A third girl in the car was seriously injured.

Police say the accident happened around 23:00 on Tuesday night in slippery road conditions on Highway 3, roughly 8km from Jalasjärvi.

The vehicle was driving from Kurikka towards Jalasjärvi when the accident happened in a sharp right bend in the road. Police say the driver likely lost control of the vehicle and collided with an electricity pole.

According to officers the driver had a drivers license, and all three young women in the car were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Police are investigating the incident as a serious threat to road safety which resulted in a death.
