Police say the death of a teenager whose body was found over the weekend, was caused by a fall.

The 15-year old died at Himos ski resort in Jämsä, and officials say he likely fell from a height of six to eight metres.

In a statement, the police say he was wearing proper equipment like a helmet and goggles, but had been off-piste on unmarked snow when he apparently fell from a low cliff.

According to the Väståbolands Svenska Församling church, the teenager was taking part in a week-long confirmation course when the accident happened. The class has been suspended, and the church is offering its support to the boy’s family.

Himos ski resort is arranging a moment of silence for the teenager today.

“With yesterday’s accident, grief is still great and touches us all” the resort’s managers wrote in a Facebook announcement.

“We will take a minute’s silence today [Monday] at 19:30. We respect the memory of the young boy who died in the ski accident, and we express our deep sorrow for his relatives” the statement said.
