Two people are in critical condition, and several others seriously injured, after an early morning head-on crash between a passenger car and a minibus carrying ten berry pickers from Thailand.

The accident happened around 05:00 on Tuesday morning on road 694 towards the town of Peräseinäjoki in Ostrobothnia.

Police say the driver of the passenger car was drunk when he crossed into the other lane, and smashed into the minibus which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The car driver had to be cut out of the wreckage by rescue crews and police say he’ll likely be charged with several offenses including aggravated drunk driving.

The injured berry pickers have been taken to hospital in Seinäjoki for treatment, with two of them in critical condition. The nine women and one man had arrived in Finland just the night before to start their seasonal jobs, say police.
