Crash Leaves Four Injured

Four people are injured, two of them seriously, after an early morning car crash. The accident happened around 05:30 this morning on Turunväylä road between Lohja and Salo. Officials say a passenger car crashed into a truck. Two people from the car were seriously injured, two less seriously injured. According to rescue crews, the car is a total wreck, and the truck seriously damaged as well.

Telia Sells Spotify Stake

Telecoms company Telia says it has sold its €220 million stake in the Spotify music service. The companies began to cooperate in 2009, and expanded their working partnership in 2015 when Telia invested almost €90 million in Spotify. Telia is listed on both Helsinki and Stockholm stock exchanges.

Finland’s New ‘Hybrid Ambassador’

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it’s appointed the country’s first “Hybrid Ambassador’. Mikko Kinnunen. He will focus on international cyber security cooperation, as well as areas like foreign and security policy; legal and commercial matters; and strategic communications. In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that Kinnunen will build up expertise in hybrid issues, and help raise Finland’s profile internationally. Last autumn the new European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats opened in Helsinki. Read more about it in our original story here.

Friday Morning Weather

If you’re waking up in Kilpisjärvi in north west Finland this morning the temperature dropped to -21°C overnight according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute. It’s a bit warmer across the rest of Lapland, between -8°C and -13°C with sunshine and partly cloudy skies forecast. The rest of the country sees bright sunshine and clear blue skies with temperatures in Central Finland between -4°C and -10°C. Along the eastern border around -5°C. In south west Finland it will feel colder, down to -8°C. While in Helsinki and the capital city region, expect temperatures on Friday morning of -9°C but almost no wind along the coast.
