Passengers heading off on holiday to Greece had an electrifying start to their trip on Sunday evening.

Finnair flight AY1882 was only 20 minutes into its journey towards Heraklion Airport in Crete when it was hit by a bolt of lightning.

The pilot made the decision to return to Helsinki Airport again, and after passengers were off-loaded the aircraft was checked by engineering crews on the ground to look for possible damage, but none was found.

The holiday-makers were transferred to another plane to continue their flight south to enjoy the Greek sunshine, after a delay of only a few hours.
