Multiple authorities say they’re investigating a case of a 76-year old woman allegedly beaten to death in a nursing home.
Police, the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health Valvira, and the Regional State Administrative Agency Aluehallintovirasto are looking into allegations that the woman was attacked by an elderly man.
Both were residents of the Pihlajalinna nursing home in Lieto, a town in south west Finland.
The woman, who suffered from memory disorder, was reportedly hit and bitten by the male resident after walking into his room by mistake.
She was still conscious when she was found by staff, but died of her injuries a week later. Police are investigating her death as a case of aggravated negligent homicide.
The death happened earlier this year, and was first reported by public broadcaster Yle’s MOT investigative programme today.
