A French national accused of stabbing his 3-year-old child to death in a Porvoo playground, has been sent for psychiatric evaluation.
A court in Eastern Uusimaa made the order this afternoon.
The child’s killing horrified the country when it happened in November. The accused man apparently took the child from home despite a restraining order which was taken out a few months previously by the child’s mother. The parents had split up earlier in the year.
Officers were called to the scene of the attack in a playground near a Swedish-speaking school, and detained the man. The child was airlifted by helicopter to hospital, but died from injuries.
Court-ordered psychiatric evaluations can take several months to complete.
