The United Brotherhood criminal organisation has promised rewards for members who attack prison guards.

Lännen Media published an investigation on Friday which say that six prison guards at Riihimäki Prison were subject to violence either at work or when they were on leave, and claims five of the assaults were organised by United Brotherhood.

The gang is suspected in the sixth assault as well.

The criminal sanctions agency Rise tells Lännen Media that it has taken steps to protect staff, and continues to compile statistics on all threats to pass to police.

Earlier in September the National Bureau of Investigation NBI says it targeted the United Brotherhood’s criminal network with searches of homes in nine cities, and three prisons.

Eighteen suspected gang members were arrested, including several leaders, after raids in Tampere, Turku, Jyväskylä, Lahti, Joensuu, Vantaa, Porvoo, Tuusula and Helsinki.

“A large number of firearms have been found during home searches. Drugs have also been seized from several locations” NBI’s Ari Lahtela said at the time.
