The National Bureau of Investigations NBI says it is considering more charges for the suspect in a sword attack in Kuopio in early October which left one woman dead and nine other people injured.
Police say that 24-year old Joel Marin is already facing charges of murder and attempted murder but could also stand trial for “plotting to cause harm to life or health”. This new charge could be brought if investigators think there was enough premeditated planning to hurt a larger number of people in the attack at Savo Vocational College inside the Herman shopping centre.
Marin will also be charged with starting a fire in the college shortly before the sword attack, but fire fighters were able to put it out quickly. Police recovered some home-made incendiary devices at Marin’s apartment in the city as well.
Police say that all of the people who were being treated in hospital following the attack, except one person, have been released. It is not clear if the suspect is still in hospital, he was shot by police in the course of the attack.
The National Bureau of Investigations wrote on their official Twitter account that they are still conducting their investigation including technical examinations of the suspect’s computer.
Police are not commenting on any possible motives at this time.
