Helsinki Police say the suspected attacked and his victims in a Tuesday afternoon shooting all knew each other
A 32-year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident which saw a gunman fire his weapon into a red Toyota around 16:00 on Tuesday afternoon, at the intersection of Hietalahdenkatu and Porkkalankatu in the west of the city.
Two men inside the car were wounded, and the driver was able to escape. Police say he was targeted, but not hit. The two injured men are being treated in hospital.
“The parties knew each other beforehand, and this was a dispute between them” says Jukka Larkio from Helsinki Police.
“The shooting took place during peak hours in the centre of Helsinki and there were many other people and cars in the area, which also posed a real danger to others” Larkio adds.
All three victims were born in the 1990s but police haven’t revealed any more information about their nationalities, how the were connected to the man in custody, or what the dispute was about.
Police say they’re investigating the incident as attempted triple murder.
