Police in Helsinki say they’re investigating the death of a child as a possible murder.
The victim is reported to be a boy of early primary school age, and Finnish media outlets say there are parents, an older sister and grandmother living at the family home.
Officers were called to the residence in the city’s Arabianranta neighbourhood soon after midnight, with four police cars and an ambulance in attendance.
Police arrested a suspect at the scene, who they say is a man born in 1982.
According to Kirsi Kanth, Chief of Crime Investigation at Helsinki Police, the suspect is in custody but police won’t release more information about the circumstances of the boy’s death at this time in case it compromises the investigation.
There is expected to be a small memorial gathering in the Arabianranta neighbourhood later today.
