The government has announced its intention to spend €83 million on buying a new missile system from America.

The Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile combat system will be installed on four new Pohjanmaa-class corvettes for the navy, which replace seven older ships that will be decommissioned.

According to a press release, the new system consists of missiles, launcher units, spare parts and supplementary parts as well.

The corvettes will all be build in Finland for reasons of national security, but the combat systems and other parts will be bought from overseas through separate tendering processes.
