Estonian drivers caught speeding by cameras in Finland will soon be receiving letters about their fines.
It’s part of a new police initiative to crack down on speeding and fine-dodging from Estonians, whose vehicles rack up more tickets than any other foreign cars on Finnish roads.
Although current regulations don’t allow Finnish authorities to send an invoice directly to Estonian drivers, they’ll instead get a letter informing them that they’re facing a fine.
The fine will be waiting for them to collect at Malmi Police Station in Helsinki, with a payment deadline.
It’s not clear how many Estonian drivers Finnish police actually think will come to Malmi to pick up their fines.
