Police in Eastern Uusimaa say they suspect that two fires at properties in Nurmijärvi were started deliberately.

The fires were noticed early on Saturday morning before 08:00 - the first at a cafe building, the other nearby about an hour later at a service building.

Rescue crews were called to the scene and managed to get both blazes under control.

Now police say they suspect the latest fires are linked to to previous cases.

“Both fires on Saturday are suspected to be related to fires in Lepsimaa and Valkjärvi schools in Nurmijärvi on 19th and 21st November” says Markku Lylykangas, the senior investigator on the case at Eastern Uusimaa Police Department.

Police are still looking for clues and asking for any eyewitnesses to the fires to come forward and get in touch.
