A new type of speed camera is being introduced this week, bringing the next generation of traffic technology to Finnish roads.
The cameras, developed in Sweden, use radar technology to take more accurate pictures of vehicles - and while it means they can track multiple cars at once to check their speeds, the images are detailed enough to know if the driver is not wearing their seat belt, or using their mobile phone.
The first cameras are now active on Route 6 near Kouvola, with plans to introduce them more widely during July and August.
Police say they won’t be letting drivers know exactly when the new cameras will be going live, but some will already be put into Helsinki’s Mechelininkatu and also in the centre of Oulu.
