Two men suspected of shooting two police officers in the early hours of Sunday morning are Swedish nationals, born in 1989 and 1994.
The National Bureau of Investigation issued the latest information on Monday morning, but says it won’t release the names of the men in custody while the preliminary investigation continues.
The two Swedes were arrested on Sunday evening in the town of Ikaalinen, after a 30 minute chase on the road from Tampere during which the suspects fired at police as they attempted to escape.
A picture purportedly from the scene of the capture shows two men dressed in black, kneeling at the side of the road with their hands in the air, next to a banged-up silver vehicle.
The National Bureau of Investigation says the Swedes are facing charges of attempted murder for shooting two officers who responded to a routine call in the south coast town of Porvoo just after midnight on Sunday morning.
A huge police search operation was launched but the suspects were not apprehended until almost 20 hours later.
Senior police officers cite “effective cooperation” between different forces around the country in capturing the men without any further injury.
