Finland’s largest science festival is underway in Helsinki this week.

The Science Forum features 300 events including debates, book sales and exhibitions taking place at Helsinki University. The festival is free to attend, and Finland’s leading scientific scholars from different fields will introduce their topic and latest research.

“This year’s theme at the Science Forum is a courage. We’re trying to figure how courage appears in science and research. For example what are particular bold actions in science? The theme is also supposed to bring new insights into the different disciplines on show at the festival” says Mandi Vermilä, one of the event producers.

“At the event you should also pay attention to how ourage occurs in everyday life. The most interesting sessions at that event are those that deal with, for example, the courage to be poor or the courage to express your own sex. These entities are related to the everyday life of many people” Vermilä tells News Now Finland.

Vermilä says that some of the highlights at the five-day event include “courage of animals”, “feminist courage in science” and “arctic research” sessions.

In recent years the Science Forum has attracted 15,000 visitors, with more following seminars and discussions online.
