The new Oodi Central Library in Helsinki hasn’t even been open for four months, but has already welcomed its one millionth visitors through the doors.
The lucky millionth visitor was library user Zizi, who was visiting Oodi for only the second time. She was surprised with flowers and a gift bag by library staff on Tuesday.
Oodi opened on the eve of Independence Day last year, and was an instant hit with the capital city’s residents.
Spread over three floors it’s got event spaces, a cinema and a café on the ground floor; a huge maker’s studio of computers, 3D printer technology, recording and audition spaces on the second floor; and the books on the third floor.
The wavy exterior architecture, partially clad in wood, has been praised for its style, and the outdoor terrace on the third floor is already expected to be a big hit for the summer months with its views of Parliament, the Music House, and Kansalaistori.
